CARES strives to partner with our colleagues in education and public health to ensure a safe and ideal learning environment for children, teachers, staff, and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our Mission
CARES focuses on the following, to support educators and young learners during the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Highlighting the critical role schools play in support of our communities.
- Using data to understand the safest ways to accomplish in-person learning and identifying the circumstances when remote learning is necessary for safety.
- Supporting equity through our guidance to give all children access to schools as a primary safety net in our communities.
CARES Objectives and Tactics
- Interpret data around health risks and implications for children in the time of COVID-19.
- Create and facilitate community for UCSF and UCSF-affiliated faculty to discuss data findings and recommendations.
- Provide scientific information and education to schools and school districts regarding the recognition and mitigation of risks for children and the adults in their school and home communities as well as understanding how risks differ in different populations of students and between teachers/staff and other adults in the community.
